Ex No. 1: Image Abstraction

Purpose

To make art, interpreting the ordinary so it appears extraordinary; to experiment with abstraction, the state of expressing an idea rather than an object; and to explore the use of unexpected, descriptive art media.

Final Work
Process

This was a really interesting and intense exercise for me as I have never done an abstraction based on an image before. I was so stressed out throughout the exercise as I could not figure out what materials to use in order to represent the image and still have the relationship between them.

In the end, I realized that the whole exercise is to encourage us to keep experimenting and exploring different possibilities to find the best one. The slideshow on the right showed the final work of my abstraction using different materials (four handmade and two mechanical).
